Expansion of Ukrainian Innovative Technologies Developed by the Department of Ophthalmology

On the 10th-12th of March, in Athens (Greece) theretook place School of Experts on Glaucoma and Age-related Macular Degeneration (AllerganBeyondMeetingAthens-2017) with the support of the Allergan Alliance. There took part 1350 delegates from 27 countries of the world.
Associate Professor I.V. Sharhorodska represented the Ukrainian delegation (the Department of Ophthalmology of NMAPE, academic director of glaucoma department of Kyiv Clinical Ophthalmological Hospital “Centre of Eye Microsurgery”). She was not only a speaker at the event but also a participant of workshops.
In 2016 the Department of Ophthalmology of Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education received a grant and started working on a budgetary research entitled “Diagnosis and Treatment of the Optical System Impairments, Vascular and Degenerative Changes of Visual Organ”. The aim of the project is to improve efficiency of diagnosis, surgical and conservative treatment of patients with visual organ pathology.
The participation in training and meetings of world experts during Allergan Beyond Meeting Athens-2017 gave an opportunity for the Department of Ophthalmology to present their technologies to global ophthalmological community, share experience of ophthalmologists around the world, identify priority areas for further cooperation with foreign partners in clinical work and in postgraduate education.
The participation in workshops made it possible to learn the latest world technologies of surgical treatment of glaucoma. It will help to implement practical knowledge of leading experts into the medical and educational process of thematic advanced training courses “Eye Microsurgery with Methods of Intraocular Lens Implantation and Phacoemulsification”, “Glaucoma” and “Vitreoretinal Surgery” at the department.
